The State, Challenges, and Future Directions of Supercomputing in MéxicoFifteen years plus ago Mexico marked its presence in the computing world by inaugurating its first supercomputer (Kan Balan) in the University Autonomous of Mexico (UNAM), since its birth academic, governmental, and private institutions throughout the nation have grown with the uses of high performance computing. The integration of these powerful systems in science and technology research is giving Mexico a foot step towards first world research, although the country is making significant strides it still lags in its uses of supercomputers in comparison to the rest of the world. An analysis of where Mexico stands in the uses of supercomputing in comparison to Latin America, Europe and the United States will be presented, as well as its challenges and the future directions to take as a country to grow in the uses of supercomputing in science and technology research. |
